Summary: Alexa is a half-Roman girl at the time leading up to the reign of King Arthur in Britain. In love with horses, Alexa is taught by her father's old groom everything there is to know about them. When her father dies suddenly, she is promised in marriage, but throws in her lot with spies or pirates - she's not sure which - in a desperate bargain with her mother to bring back some breeding stock horses from the continent to improve the family fortunes.
